News & Events on the MerseyPlanet
Below is a list of News and upcoming events planned for Liverpool and the MerseyPlanet Light Vessel:
September 2012 - Liverpool Heritage Month
During the month of September, we will be taking part in the Liverpool Heritage Month event running from Saturday 1st September, through to Sunday 30th.
Building on the success of Heritage Open Days (co-ordinated nationally by English Heritage), which celebrates England's fantastic architecture and culture by offering free access to properties that are usually closed to the public or normally charge for admission, Liverpool is extending its cultural heritage programme throughout the month of September in a joint initiative between Liverpool City Council and VisitLiverpool. Throughout the month of September buildings of every age, style and function across the city will offer a once-a-year chance to discover hidden architectural treasures and enjoy a wide range of unique tours, events and activities which bring local history and culture alive for everyone.
Outside of London, Liverpool already has the largest Heritage Open Days programme in the country, so it makes sense to extend the programme so more people will have more opportunities to enjoy our magnificent heritage throughout the month of September. We aim to bring Heritage to the forefront of what Liverpool has to offer and further highlight Liverpool's outstanding universal value as a World Heritage Site.
We have put together an exciting month long programme of building openings, tours and new special events designed to showcase our fantastic heritage. Some of the more unusual events include: a tour of the crypt at St Luke's ('bombed out') church, an exclusive sneak preview of the refurbished Reading Rooms at Central library, ghost tours at the 'Florrie', new tours of the North Docks, theatrical historic pub tours, a new Toxteth Heritage Trail, a Pillbox Vintage Fair at the Victoria Gallery and Museum, tours of the beautifully restored Deane Road cemetery and a Heritage Poetry Trail involving young local writers'
Full details of the Heritage month programme will be published on VisitLiverpool.com/heritagemonth and in a specially produced brochure.'

Ship Show: Maritime-Folk-Cabaret
Performances at 14:00 and 15:00
Emerging from the darkness of the lower decks comes a new fable for Liverpool. Old stories, new myths, forgotten memories and stolen desire from the depths of the Mersey are transformed through music, dance, puppetry and spoken word. The Suitcase Ensemble invite you to look, laugh and lose your way in this fishy folky cabaret for a modern Mersey Side.
The Suitcase Ensemble are a collective of theatre makers who collaborate with local communities to create unexpected new performances. This Maritime-Folk-Cabaret is part of a new project exploring local mythology and folklore.
